Amazon's April 2 event signals arrival of a new media device

Amazon have long been hinting at bringing their own media device to market to run their Amazon Instant Video service on their own dedicated set-top box, and the invites have just gone out for an event on April 2nd which suggests that it may be coming sooner than we expected.

Amazon’s own set-top box device would rival the likes of the Apple TV and Google Chromecast, and is even hinted at including gaming capabilities with a bundled game controller being included in the package.

With its own dedicated App Store and streaming service, Amazon have all the ingredients it needs to fuel such a device, but specific details such as price, form factor, or even how it will function still remain a mystery.

Will the device introduced on April 2nd see a Chromecast rival? We’ll have to wait and see.
