Chromecast home screen could soon offer weather, personal photos

Google could soon introduce new features to the home screen of the Chromecast experience, according to new findings. As first discovered by a Reddit user, source code in Chromecast home screen reveals new weather-related icons. What’s more, javascript code hints at a variety of topics which could be displayed at the home screen, including personal photos.

GigaOm reached out to Google to see if there was something on the horizon:

We’re always experimenting with new features, but have nothing new to announce.

We’ve seen a number of concepts for a new Google Chromecast home screen, some of which are simply stunning. Last week saw the introduction of a user-defined and tailored Chromecast experience that employs, among other things, the Android app Tasker.

If there’s anything we expect to see in the Chromecast home screen down the road, it’s Google Now notifications. Even if it’s done as an as-needed pop-up window, we fully think Google will bake something more into the splash page.
