Google Cast tech comes to more TVs; mobile app gets renamed

Google on Tuesday announced its casting capabilities have come to more devices. Specifically, VIZIO’s new SmartCast P-Series displays, soundbars, and speakers. Indeed the TVs are cast-ready for apps while the soundbars and speakers are designed for casting your audio.

The P-Series also supports casting Ultra HD (up to 4K) and Dolby Vision High Dynamic Range content (bright, clear colors!). Included with every P-series is VIZIO’s 6” Android tablet remote, a tablet that lives in the living room and can cast all your favorite content.

In addition to the new devices, Google confirmed that the mobile Chromecast app is getting a name change. Rolling out in the coming days, the app will be known as Google Cast instead. We like the change as it suggests a wider range of functionality and integration and not something tied to its own Chromecast dongles.

Look for the newly renamed Google Cast app on Android and iOS devices over the next week.
