Google: Chromecast will no longer require Wi-Fi connection

Good guy Google is making it easier than ever to cast your favorite app or game to a Chromecast. Employing a bit magic, science and nearby authentication, Google will let users connect to a nearby TV so that they can cast their device. This way you won’t have to divulge your Wi-Fi password or allow users to hop on your network in order for them to share a song or video. Should that not work, it’s also possible to set up a PIN so folks can get connected.

Keeping in the tradition of Google, this is an opt-in feature that you can get out of at any time. As to how soon we’ll see this roll out isn’t exactly clear. We have to wait for it to roll out to all Android users later this year, presumably around the time of the next major platform launch.
