Tip: Fix issues with Chromecast and BT Home Hub in the UK

Google-Chromecast

Now the Chromecast is officially available in the UK, users are getting ready to unbox their device and connect it up to the TV. However, many users may experience issues if their broadband router is at BT Home Hub, but don’t worry there’s a fix.

When trying to connect the Chromecast to your home WiFi, you might get a “Smart Setup” wizard screen presented on the TV, with seemingly no way to interact with it to progress further.

The simple fix for this is to login to your BT Home Hub and head over to the Advanced Settings on the Web GUI and turn off “Smart Setup”. Set it to “No”, and then hit “Apply” and attempt the connection again.

Now you can enjoy your Chromecast, issue free.

I cannot use Chromecast for watching on my TV a live stream from my laptop. I can watch the live stream without any problems on the laptop itself and when I “cast” a downloaded video to my TV via Chromecast it works fine. If I try to cast a live stream the stream freezes intermittently and the TV loses sync with the laptop ….BT cannot help since they only support the BT Sport app with Chromecast….anybody else had this problem?
